Our first own-brand LED tape range, explained
After years of supplying and specifying LED products from other manufacturers, we have launched the first LED tape to carry the Penn Elcom name. Here is what the range includes and how to choose between the four strips.
Penn Elcom has supplied the professional lighting trade for a long time. But this LED tape is our own: a range of four strips, developed by our LED team to a single, consistent standard. Every strip runs on 24V, renders colour at CRI 90 or above, and uses a high LED count per metre for a smooth, even line of light. Each one pairs with matched Penn Elcom connectors, drivers, controls and aluminium profiles, so a complete system can be specified from one supplier with support from our UK-based team.

A strip for each job
PRIMO is the efficiency choice. This 2700K warm white strip delivers 1510 lm/m from just 9W/m, an efficacy of 167 lm/W, and reaches energy efficiency class C. It is built with high-efficacy chips, active current regulation and an immersion gold PCB, and comes on a 10m reel with a 7-year warranty. It suits commercial, retail and architectural schemes where running cost and building energy targets are under scrutiny.
Dim-to-warm is the atmosphere choice. It shifts from 3000K warm white down to 1800K candlelight amber as it is dimmed, recreating the familiar glow of a halogen lamp with LED efficiency. That makes it a natural fit for hospitality, restaurants, bars and homes, where a warm, relaxed mood matters more than cool task light.
Tunable white, also called dynamic white, is the flexibility choice. A single strip adjusts anywhere across 2200K to 3500K, from very warm candlelight to balanced white, holding its brightness across the range. It is made for offices, studios, galleries and adaptable retail, where one installation needs to serve different tasks and times of day.
COB RGBW is the colour choice. Chip-on-board construction gives a continuous, dot-free line with no visible diodes, combining full RGBW colour with a dedicated 4000K white channel. It can be run through Bluetooth and Casambi, DALI, DMX or RF, and is made for decorative and feature lighting in bars, cinemas, displays and creative retail.
Built for real specifications
Beyond the headline figures, the range is designed to meet the standards specifiers actually work to. PRIMO, dim-to-warm and tunable white all exceed the 75 lumens per circuit watt needed to meet Part L for residential dwellings, and all three clear the 80 lumens per circuit watt threshold for display lighting in non-dwellings. Used with a suitable diffuser, PRIMO also meets Part L for general lighting in non-dwellings. For projects where the detail matters, our lighting design team can review building plans, develop a specification and quote the appropriate products.

Choosing between tunable white and dim-to-warm
These two are commonly confused. Tunable white is the better choice for offices, kitchens, studios and multi-use spaces, because it holds brightness across the colour range and allows independent control of colour and output, usually through DALI, DMX, Casambi or RF. Dim-to-warm is the better choice for living rooms, bedrooms, restaurants and home cinemas, where the light is meant to soften and warm as it dims, much like a traditional filament lamp.
A complete system, not just a reel
Every strip pairs with Penn Elcom connectors and joiners sized to its width, low-voltage cable, and our range of aluminium profiles provide heat management and a clean finish. Match a 24V driver to the load, add the required control protocol, and the system is complete. For installers who would rather not build it on site, our custom LED assembly service can supply a pre-wired, tested kit to specification. Samples are available from the LED team on request.
