Steel Ceiling Tiles
Durable metal tiles for suspended ceilings, made for commercial, retail, and specialised spaces.
Penn Elcom steel ceiling tiles give suspended ceilings a clean, hard-wearing finish that holds up in busy environments. Each tile is professionally powder coated in white and sized for standard 600mm grids, so it drops straight into place during a new fit-out or a refurbishment. Choose plain tiles for a smooth, uniform look, or vented tiles where airflow matters. Both are available to buy from our ceiling tiles range.

Product Range
Our steel ceiling tiles are available in two finishes, both sized 593mm x 593mm to sit neatly in a 600mm module grid.
The CT6X6W plain tile has a smooth white powder-coated face. It is a low-maintenance choice for offices, retail, and commercial interiors.
The CT6X6WV vented tile is perforated for 63% free air, suited to spaces where ventilation or air return through the ceiling is needed.
Why choose steel ceiling tiles
Steel ceiling tiles are built to last far longer than mineral fibre alternatives, which can sag, crack, or discolour when exposed to moisture. A steel tile resists knocks and everyday handling, so it keeps its shape through repeated access to the ceiling void.
The powder-coated surface wipes clean with a damp cloth, and steel does not harbour mould or mildew in the way softer materials can. That makes these tiles a practical option for areas that need to stay presentable and hygienic.
Because steel is non-combustible and stands up to humidity, it suits environments where mineral fibre would degrade over time. The tiles also lift out individually, giving quick access to wiring, lighting, and insulation above the grid whenever maintenance is needed.
Steel is widely recyclable at the end of its life, which supports the sustainability requirements many commercial projects now carry.

Areas of application
Offices and commercial buildings, where a clean white grid keeps workspaces bright and professional while concealing services above.
Retail spaces and showrooms, where durable tiles hold their finish under bright display lighting and frequent layout changes.
Healthcare facilities such as lobbies, corridors, and waiting areas, where hygiene and appearance both matter.
Transport terminals including airports and train stations, which see heavy footfall and constant use.
Restaurants and cafés, where steel copes with heat, moisture, and cleaning demands better than softer materials.
Vented spaces like server rooms, leisure centres, commercial kitchens, washrooms, and plant rooms that need air return or extraction through the ceiling without breaking the grid line.
Plain or vented: how to choose
Both tiles share the same size, finish, and grid compatibility. The difference is the face.
The CT6X6W plain tile has a solid, smooth surface. It gives the most uniform appearance and is the standard choice for most general commercial ceilings.
The CT6X6WV vented tile is perforated to offer 63% free air. Use it where airflow through the ceiling is needed, such as return-air paths for heating and cooling systems, or rooms that need extra ventilation. Vented tiles can be mixed with plain tiles across a single ceiling, so you only add venting where the layout calls for it.

Installation and compatibility
Penn Elcom steel ceiling tiles are lay-in tiles, which means they rest into a standard suspended ceiling grid from above and sit on the grid flanges. At 593mm square they perfectly fit the 600mm module used across most commercial suspended ceilings, so in most refurbishments they replace existing tiles without any change to the grid.
Installation is straightforward and needs no adhesive or fixings for the tile itself. Where access to the void is required, individual tiles lift out and drop back in cleanly.
For a new installation, or if you are unsure whether your existing grid matches, our team can advise on suitability before you order.
Custom manufacturing
Penn Elcom manufactures to order as well as supplying the standard range. If your project needs a non-standard tile size, a specific RAL colour to match a scheme, or a particular perforation, we can produce it. Contact the team with your requirements for a quotation.
About our steel ceiling tiles
Penn Elcom steel ceiling tiles are a modern alternative to traditional mineral fibre panels for suspended or "false" ceilings. Where mineral fibre can absorb moisture and lose its shape, steel keeps its finish and structural integrity for years, which is why metal tiles are increasingly specified for commercial and public buildings.
Each tile is pressed from 0.65mm steel and powder coated in RAL 9010 white for a consistent, bright surface. The 593mm square size fits the 600mm grid module found in most UK suspended ceilings, so the tiles work for both new fit-outs and one-for-one replacement of worn or damaged panels.
What are suspended ceiling tiles?
Suspended ceiling tiles are panels that sit in a metal grid hung below the structural ceiling. The grid and tiles create a void that hides wiring, pipework, ductwork, and insulation, while giving a clean finished surface below. Because each tile lifts out, the services above stay accessible for maintenance. Our steel tiles bring durability and a wipe-clean surface to this system, which suits environments where appearance and hygiene need to endure over time.
Steel ceiling tiles compared with mineral fibre
Mineral fibre tiles are the most common and the lowest cost, and they perform well for sound absorption. Their weakness is moisture: leaks or humidity can cause them to sag and stain. Steel tiles cost more but resist water, knocks, and wear, wipe clean easily, and last longer, which often makes them the better value over the life of a building. For spaces exposed to moisture, heavy use, or strict cleaning regimes, steel is usually the better choice.
Plain and vented options
The plain tile gives a smooth, uniform ceiling. The vented tile is perforated to allow 63% free air, which lets air move through the ceiling for ventilation or as part of a heating and cooling return-air path. Mixing the two across one ceiling lets you place ventilation exactly where it is needed while keeping the rest of the surface solid.
Ordering and custom options
The standard white tiles are available to buy online. For projects that need a different size, colour, or perforation, Penn Elcom can manufacture to specification. Get in touch with your requirements and our team will advise on the best option.

Frequently asked questions
What are steel ceiling tiles?
Steel ceiling tiles are metal panels that sit in a suspended ceiling grid. They give a durable, wipe-clean finish and last longer than mineral fibre tiles, particularly in busy or moisture-prone spaces.
What size are Penn Elcom ceiling tiles?
Each tile measures 593mm x 593mm x 14mm and fits a standard 600mm grid module. They cover 0.35 m² each.
What is the difference between plain and vented ceiling tiles?
The plain tile has a solid face for a uniform appearance. The vented tile is perforated to offer 63% free air, allowing ventilation or air return through the ceiling. Both are otherwise identical in size and finish.
Are Penn Elcom ceiling tiles compatible with existing suspended ceilings?
Yes. As 593mm lay-in tiles, they fit the 600mm module used in most commercial suspended ceilings, so they can replace existing tiles or form part of a new installation.
Where are steel ceiling tiles used?
They are commonly installed in offices, retail spaces, healthcare facilities, transport terminals, restaurants, and other commercial buildings where durability and a clean finish are needed.
Are steel ceiling tiles better than mineral fibre?
Steel tiles are more durable, resist moisture, and wipe clean, so they tend to last longer and stay presentable. Mineral fibre is cheaper and absorbs sound better. The right choice depends on budget, environment, and whether acoustic performance is a priority.
How do I clean steel ceiling tiles?
Wipe with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then dry. The powder-coated surface resists marks and does not encourage mould or mildew.
Are steel ceiling tiles fire resistant?
The tiles are made from steel, which is a non-combustible material.
Can I order ceiling tiles in a custom size or colour?
Yes. Penn Elcom manufactures to order and can supply non-standard sizes, RAL colours, and perforations on request.
How many ceiling tiles do I need?
Each tile covers 0.35 m². Divide the ceiling area in square metres by 0.35 to estimate the number of tiles, then add a margin for cuts and wastage. Our team can help you work this out for your project.
Are steel ceiling tiles recyclable?
Steel is widely recyclable, so the tiles can be recovered at the end of their service life through standard metal recycling.
